Artist biography
Peter is Artistic Director of Crooked House, a trainer of drama facilitators, actors, and teachers, and an internationally experienced theatre-maker and director. He established Kildare Youth Theatre in 1996, the Dréimire Project for (to support young people access third level actor training), and is coordinator of Maynooth University's Directing for Theatre course.
He has worked with student actors in universities in Ireland, London, Greece, Italy, Spain, Turkey and the US, and been Arts Council Artist in Residence in Maynooth for 4 years. Peter has developed and run over 50 Erasmus+ training programmes in theatre-making for Irish and international drama facilitators and young people.
He co-creates new work with young people aged 17 to 30. Crooked House has toured his work with young people all over Ireland, the UK, Europe and the Middle East. He has premiered in Ireland work by Jon Fosse, Mark Ravenhill, Laura Wade, Philip Ridley and Edward Bond; directed 20 productions of Shakespeare with young people; and staged several productions of new work by emerging writers in Ireland.
My workshops include a guide to making magic realist theatre of the kind specialized in my practice with Crooked House; directing Shakespeare; actor training; developing ensembles; training directors; youth theatre management; workshop facilitation; and several performance practices developed over the years working in the field.
Having founded Crooked House Theatre Company in 1993 my work is now also focused on international practice and actor training. We have established and nurtured a large international network of youth theatre organisations and practitioners with who we collaborate on many projects. I am available for local, national and international workshops with young people and with leaders, directors, coordinators and facilitators.
His research lies in the area of neurology and performance, and in particular on the psychological and neurological impact of collaborative theatre-making on young people.
