Funded by the Creative Ireland programme, Youth Theatre Island is a partnership initiative between Youth Theatre Ireland, Theatre and Dance NI and venues across the island to celebrate youth theatre and young people as artists.
The ambitious 3-year programme will showcase plays written by, for, and with young people, premier new plays devised and written as part of the artistic development of the programme and will culminate in the first all-island National YouthTheatre programme in 2027.
Youth Theatre Island 2025
Youth Theatre Ireland are excited to be a strategic partner over the next 3 years with Creative Ireland for Cruinniú na nÓg – in partnership with Theatre and Dance NI, each year they will bring Youth Theatres from across the island of Ireland together to perform plays that have been written by and for young performers.
In 2025, 17 youth theatres across the island created, wrote, designed, directed, and rehearsed to showcase their talents on June 7th , Cruinniú na nÓg, 2025.
On the day, these youth theatres met at 5 different venues to take part in a fun workshop together and perform plays that they have devised themselves or have come from Youth Theatre Ireland’s Playshare collection. Each performance was around one hour and featured 3-4 Youth Theatres performing for 10-15 minutes each. The age range for these performances was 12+ and is a great chance to see what Youth Theatre is all about!
The performances on Cruinniú are free admission and were performed at 5 venues across the island. An Grianán Donegal, Bright Umbrella Belfast, The Mill Theatre Dundrum Dublin, The Everyman Cork and Siamsa Tíre Kerry.
We're looking forward to 2026!
