Leading On covers all areas of youth theatre practice including the artistic and organisational.
The programme presents a yearly residential event held over four days in the summer. The residential is a valuable opportunity for youth drama practitioners to explore new approaches, gather new material and develop their own artistic practice. The training is open to affiliated youth theatres as well as Organisational and Individual members.
"I have come away from "Leading On" with a well of valuable material to bring to and use with my own group in the coming year. "Leading On" is also about making connections and forming new relationships which may impact the ways in which we move forward collectively." Participant, "Leading On"

Join Facilitator, Author & Playologist Dave Kelly in an immersive, energising, engaging and fun workshops that will encourage you to explore and experience stimulus from Dave’s book: Laying the Foundations (A guide to youth Drama Facilitation).
Leading On... is a valuable opportunity for youth drama practitioners to explore new approaches, gather new material and develop their own artistic practice.
In order to inspire imagination and creativity, it is important to create a safe space to allow the participants to unlock their imagination. This weekend will encourage you to reignite your imagination, playfulness, and creativity; to dream, to imagine and possibly surprise yourself. To help develop a range of transferrable skills in creative facilitation. These workshops are designed to help you build your creative facilitation toolkit and will provide you with strategies and techniques from the Laying the Foundations that you can use to inspire your own work and practice with young people.
Training Objectives:
- Develop new creative approaches that will enhance your imagination, creativity, and your work.
- Gain practical workshop experience that will build your toolkit of creative facilitation techniques, activities, and workshops.
- Deepen your learning outcomes through a learn-by-doing approach which allows you to explore the creative process from a participant’s point of view.
- Benefit from a supportive space to explore your own creativity and share experiences with your peers.
- Participants will be signposted to other supports and resources available.
The training is open to affiliated youth theatres as well as Organisational and Individual members. If you are not currently a member, then please select the ticket option that also includes a membership.
This year Leading On… will be held from the 7th to the 9th of June 2024 at the Granary Theatre, University College Cork.
This weekend is also ideal if you have any new facilitators or assistant facilitators who would like the opportunity network and hone their skills. You can find more information on the Eventbrite page.
