Artist biography
Nessa Matthews is an actor (LAMDA, Dist.), writer and director from Co. Louth. Since graduating, she has worked regularly on stage and screen. Her work can be seen on RTÉ, BBC, Netflix, Stan Australia, ZDF and in theatres across the UK and Ireland including; Rough Magic, Abbey Theatre, Theatre 503, Bewley’s Theatre, Bargehouse Southbank, Murmuration.
As an writer/maker, she is interested in things that she or others don't know how to say or express; working with images, sounds, movement and text to try to shape that space into a narrative world that can open out conversations. She favours a highly physical, design led approach and enjoys creating worlds with their own unique language and working in an interdisciplinary way to find new expressions of things we think we know.
Recent credits as writer/maker include award-winning INFINITY for stage (Dublin Fringe Festival 2018) and WAY BEYOND THE BLUE (Theatre Upstairs). She is a Maven at The Mill Theatre for 2026 and is developing DOOMSCROLLER with support from the Art Council.
As a director, most recent credits include FIGHTING WORDS (Abbey Theatre), MADE FROM PAPER (Mermaid Arts Centre), Gleek of the Week (Smock Alley), Bunny Bunny (International Tour).
