Artist biography
Eimear Hussey is a Dublin-based theatre-maker, with a practice that spans playwriting, facilitation, costume design and costume making for theatre and dance.
While she makes work for audiences of all ages, a core strand of her practice is theatre for young audiences and youth theatre practice.
Across all strands she aims to explore the intersection of writing and design - of how the two languages can support and challenge each other. Her writing work is often responsive, and socially engaged, while her design work focuses on abstraction, innovation, sustainable practices, and maker-led design work.
Her recent writing credits include ‘Like We Were Born to Move’ (Peacock Theatre, 2023) - a commission from Youth Theatre Ireland to write for their 2022/23 National Youth Theatre ensemble, and ‘Tales of the Inventor and the Pirate: A Show for Ben and Jacob’ as part of Draíocht Blanchardstown’s NEST programme (Draíocht, 2024). She was the Literary Assistant at Fishamble for 2025, and the Tenderfoot Design mentor for 2026.
Recent costume design credits include Fancy Dan (Temperance Hall, 2025), and ‘THIS TOO SHALL PASS’ (Pearse Centre, DFF, 2024).
She is a former member of Dublin Youth Theatre and the National Youth Theatre.
