Synopsis
This updating of Lysistrata, where a band of women led by Nicole take on the government of Monopolis by having a sex strike and taking over government buildings and TV stations. It is a comedy that follows the classic story about a group of women out to stop a war.
This version also includes songs and choruses, in addition to pacy comic scenes. The characters are colourful and fun to play. The play, although being a comedy, never loses sight of the seriousness of the subject and we are frequently reminded to good effect, what this is really all about.
The play involved a devising process in which several of the group’s ideas were incorporated into the piece, and some interesting discussions ensued with regard to community action and members’ experiences.
