Announcing Youth Theatre Ireland’s Empower Programme
Youth Theatre Ireland is delighted to announce the highly-anticipated Empower Youth Theatre Encounter: Creativity for All, residential programme.
40 young people from 10 youth theatres across the country come together for this impactful three-day residential event, taking place from 7-9 July at Kilkenny College. This event is specifically designed to provide a transformative experience for young people aged 12-17 who may face barriers to participation.
Drawing from the wider Youth Theatre Ireland membership, young people from counties Clare, Cork, Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Tipperary, Wexford and Wicklow will take part and are incredibly excited for the opportunity to engage in workshops designed to boost their confidence, foster self-expression, and develop crucial teamwork abilities in a truly accessible setting.
"Youth Theatre Ireland is deeply committed to providing empowering and enriching experiences for all young people through youth theatre, especially those facing additional challenges" comments Alan King, Deputy Director, Youth Theatre Ireland.
“This first ever Empower Youth Theatre Encounter is a core part of this mission, bringing together diverse young voices and nurturing their creative potential in a supportive and inclusive setting. We are incredibly proud to see Youth Theatres embracing and enabling their young people to access this opportunity, fostering creativity for all. We are delighted to welcome 40 young people and 60 leaders, carers, support staff and youth theatre artists to Kilkenny this July.”
The benefits for participants are extensive, ranging from increased theatrical skills and artistic appreciation to enhanced self-esteem, improved communication, and a stronger sense of belonging. There is no cost to take part, the programme covers all meals, accommodation, activities, and travel expenses, ensuring accessibility for all, removing financial and logistical hurdles to participation.
We hope that this ground-breaking and potentially life-changing encounter will become a unique and integral part of Youth Theatre Ireland programming.
This fantastic, inclusive opportunity for participants is made possible through the generous support of funders, including the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal grant from Community Foundation Ireland, and the ongoing dedication of the Youth Theatre Ireland team.
