Youth Theatre Island is a partnership initiative between Youth Theatre Ireland, Theatre, Dance NI and venues across the island to celebrate youth theatre and young people as artists. It is a Creative Ireland Shared Island project.
On Cruinnú na nÓg, youth theatres from across the island of Ireland will come together in 5 venues to perform a total of 20 pieces that have been written for, written by, or devised by youth theatres. The performances on Cruinniú will be free admission and will be performed at An Grianán Donegal, Bright Umbrella Belfast, The Mill Theatre Dundrum Dublin, The Everyman Cork and Siamsa Tíre Kerry.
Speaking at the launch of the programme, Youth Theatre Ireland Director Eoghan Doyle said ‘I’m delighted to be here at the launch of Cruinniú na nÓg but also to officially launch our exciting new Youth Theatre Island programme. Youth Theatre Ireland and Theatre and Dance NI will be working together over the next 3-years to deliver an ambitious programme that celebrates youth theatre across the island if Ireland and the artistic voices of young people. The artistic ambition of the project will culminate in the first all-island National Youth Theatre programme in 2027, where 5 new plays, written by young people, will premiere in 5 venues across the island. We are so excited to work on this programme and showcase the power and impact of youth theatre.’
