Welcome to Castletownbere Youth Theatre
Castletownbere YT (CTBYT) is an independent youth theatre running in the fishing village of Castletownbere, West Cork, and is the newest member of Youth Theatre Ireland
Originally set up as a project of Uilleann Arts Centre, through a small JOIN IN development grant from Youth Theatre Ireland in Oct 2020. It has gone through several changes and evolved into a newly established Unincorporated Assocation with a voluntary committee and two paid facilitators.
Shirley Cahill is one of the drivers of CTBYT, alongside Maria O’Sullivan. Shirley has recently completed Youth Theatre Ireland's Drama Facilitation Training Course and Maria been involved in Youth theatre since 2011.
A spokesperson for CBTYT had this to say about their membership of Youth Theatre Ireland:
"CTB YT activities make us happy. Being a member of Youth Theatre Ireland will make us happier as we refine skills and make new connections. Members love attending CTB YT. Youth Theatre Ireland's opportunities excite the young people. For some members, it is the only group to which they belong outside of family and school. Social connections are made and can be fostered and further developed with youth theatre through participation in a variety of projects. Artistic prowess can be honed and the craft advanced.Affiliation will enhance members’ social and personal outcomes in engagement and self-confidence; mental health, wellbeing and belonging; exploration & freedom of different forms of expression; decision making or adaptability. We look forward to the fun along the way."
CBTYT has two groups, 10-12, and 12+ and operate from Scoil an Chroí Ró-Naofa on Wednesday evenings. New members are always welcome. Please contact castletownbereyt@gmail.com for details.
