We are very much Back in the Room as the 2021 Youth Theatre Practice Symposium returns to University College Cork on November 26th & 27th.
Learnings from 2020/21
The last eighteen months have been a steep learning curve for us all. We have experienced some personal and professional highs and lows since March 2020. The existence of youth theatre, and its place in the lives of young people, has never been more vulnerable or more essential.
Thankfully, we've survived and as we are now getting Back in the Room, we can take our collective experiences, our shared knowledge to build a brighter future for youth theatre across Ireland.
Exploring themes of recovery and resilience we will hear from keynote speakers and leading practitioners. We will share our experiences of the last eighteen months, exploring tools, strategies, and approaches for getting Back in the Room.
Our workshops and talks will cover approaches to challenging material, unlocking creativity, and developing self-care and resilience.
We will celebrate the abundance of original material created in the digital space, with a curated retrospective of our members' work over the last eighteen months. Coupled with live youth theatre performance as part of Playshare, we'll continue to put the voices of young people at the centre of Irish Youth Theatre.
With even more opportunities to network, share practice and socialise, the Youth Theatre Practice Symposium is the ideal way to reconnect our youth theatre sector once again.
We cannot wait to see you there.
Participants can expect to:
· Hear inspiring voices from the youth theatre sector and beyond
· Explore areas of current practice and concern through a series of talks and discussions
· Share practice and discuss key questions and themes with other participants
· Learn new skills and approaches through participation in specialist theatre workshops
· Watch some of the best work created on digital platforms by young people
· Network and socialise with organisations and individuals interested in youth theatre practice
· Discover new writing for youth theatre through staged readings by young people
· Reconnect with colleagues and friends old and new
· And more!
Who's it for?
This symposium is aimed broadly at those already engaged in youth theatre practice as well as participants with an interest in youth theatre from the theatre, education, youth work, and community sectors. The symposium is open to adult practitioners aged 18+.
