Youth Theatre Ireland today announced the appointment of Cathal Thornton as new Child Protection and Wellbeing Officer. As a young person-centred organisation, Youth Theatre Ireland prioritises the safety and wellbeing of young people, and promotes best practice in child protection, welfare, and wellbeing in youth theatres. The Child Protection and Wellbeing Officer will coordinate all aspects of Youth Theatre Ireland’s work in this important area.
Cathal is looking forward to joining the team. “I am delighted to be joining the Youth Theatre Ireland team as the new Child Protection and Wellbeing Officer. The amazing work Katie Martin and Louise Holian have done always inspired me to strive to ensure young people’s safety and wellness are paramount in my own practice, and I’m excited to share that with all our member youth theatres nationwide. I’m looking forward to getting started in the coming weeks and supporting young people and youth theatre leaders in whatever capacity they need.”
Youth Theatre Ireland (YTI) is the national development organisation for youth theatre. We support a network of youth theatres that deliver year-round programmes of drama workshops and performance opportunities to young people aged 12+ in cities, towns and villages across Ireland.
YTI is unique in our commitment to youth-centred drama practice, and promotes
youth drama opportunities that focus on the artistic, personal, and social development of young people. The organisation is funded through multi-annual strategic funding from the Arts Council of Ireland and as a national youth work organisation by the Department of Children, Equality, Diversity Integration and Youth. Youth Theatre Ireland is also a Creative Youth partner organisation supported by Creative Ireland.
