Find a Play
One of the many challenges in producing quality youth theatre is sourcing material which will meet the practical needs of individual groups and challenge both audiences and performers alike.
With 15 new plays added to Playshare for 2020, the collection now boasts 127 plays. These include one-acts, issue-based dramas, comedies, classical adaptations and even several pantomime and musical scripts.
Playshare is a curated collection of plays suitable for youth theatre groups, and made available through Youth Theatre Ireland.
All Playshare scripts have been written specifically for young people. They vary in length, content and style, and all have been produced by a youth theatre or similar group at least once.
The Playshare resource is open to the public. If you are a producer or director, you request a chosen play text. This service is available both nationally and internationally. Postage and packaging will be charged for this service.
Copyright for all plays remains with the authors. Permission must be granted prior to production.
For all PlayShare enquiries, contact Alan King on 01-878 1301 or by email. Please allow up to 7 days for a response to your Playshare Enquiry.
Affliated youth theatres can apply to Youth Theatre Ireland for a contribution towards the cost of performance rights for Playshare plays under the Perform YT Scheme. For more information please visit here
Submitting a play to Playshare
Youth Theatre Ireland is constantly looking for new work to add to the Playshare collection. If you have commissioned a new play, devised a piece or adapted an existing work with your youth theatre, and you feel it would be suitable for production by other youth theatres, let us know about it.
We accept submissions for Playshare all year round. Scripts are read from August onwards and we contact writers in early November. Writers will be informed whether or not their play is accepted. The Playshare collection is then updated in late November.
When submitting a play please include a short synopsis and some information about cast size and age range. Please submit a clean, typed, formatted script with your full name and current contact details on the front page. Submissions must be made in soft copy only to Alan King by email.
