Young Critics 2020 Reimagined for Life During and After Lockdown
Since lockdown began, Youth Theatre Ireland has been proactive in moving work into the online space. Due to the ongoing pandemic, we have reimagined our Young Critics programme for 2020 by moving it online and making it accessible to participants from home.
Over the summer, our Young Critics will have fun getting to know each other by participating in a series of online workshops, webinars and discussions.
Our Young Critics will be given the opportunity to learn about theatre and develop their critical skills under the mentorship of professional theatre critic Dr. Karen Fricker and Youth Theatre Ireland’s own, Alan King. Karen and Alan have been busy adapting workshops and exercises for the online space. They will introduce the group to new forms of digital theatre and performance by reimagining exciting ways for creating critical responses to work. Our first online session starts on Friday June 19th.
Youth Theatre Ireland continues to provide a worthwhile and interesting experience which will allow all 19 participants to learn about theatre and the art of theatre criticism in addition to meeting other like-minded individuals whilst viewing some inspiring theatrical work. Young Critics will be encouraged to seek out suitable online theatrical performances and to make and share critical responses to that work.
We still hope that the group will come together in an offline space as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival from 9th – 11th October. This will be guided by the Government’s Roadmap for Reopening Society and Business.
In addition we have been able to extend the programme to include our three Young Critics Online Winners. We’re delighted to welcome Aoife Murphy from Explore Youth Theatre, Rachael Lennon from Monaghan Youth Theatre and Áindréas Fallon Verbruggen from Mr. Sands Youth Theatre to Young Critics 2020.
We have regularly updated the Young Critics Blog with reviews, and responses from Young Critics 2020 since March. You can view all reviews here.
