Young Critics 2018 - Deadline Extended

Young Critics 2018 - Deadline Extended

Due to the disruptions to youth theatre sessions as a result of the bad weather we have extended the deadline for Applications to Tuesday March 13th.

Application forms do not have to be signed by your leaders as we will confirm your membership on offer of a place.

We will also accept soft copy applications via email.

“Young Critics has been one the best things I’ve been involved in. It’s been one the best youth theatre experiences. I have gotten so much out of the programme and had so many great experiences I will never forget”. – Young Critic 2017.

Young Critics is one of Youth Theatre Ireland’s most popular and innovative programmes. Over a six-month period, participants will see some incredible shows, make new friends and learn about the art of theatre criticism.

During the programme   young people are given an opportunity to see quality productions, while developing their critical skills under the mentorship of international theatre critic and academic, Dr. Karen Fricker and Youth Theatre Ireland’s own Alan King.

This year the programme will include a particular focus on engaging your digital creativity. There will be an increased focus on making critical responses through video blogs, podcasts and other uses of digital technology.

This will all be supported by our professional mentors through workshops, tutorials and online support forums.

In addition there will be the opportunity for participants to involve their own youth theatres at a local level, by attending shows locally and promoting discussion with their peers and leaders.

• Applicants must be aged 16 – 20 on 1 April 2018.
• Applicants must be a current member of a Youth Theatre Ireland affiliated Youth Theatre.
• Selected participants must be fully available from Friday 6 – Sunday 8 April 2017 inclusive and attend a follow up weekend event as part of Dublin Theatre Festival in October (dates tbc).
• You must also be available to take part in online discussions and organise a theatre trip in your own area in between the two residential weekends. You will be supported by Youth Theatre Ireland, your own youth theatre and your local venues to do this.

Participation in the programme is free: accommodation, food, theatre tickets and travel costs are covered by Youth Theatre Ireland.
