Introducing Youth Theatre Ireland
The national development organisation for youth theatre rebrands after 37 years
On 15th February, friends, supporters and members came together to formally launch Youth Theatre Ireland. It was an event fitting of such a storied and rooted organisation with contributions from founder Paddy O'Dwyer; past youth theatre member, Stefanie Preissner; and current youth theatre member, Louis Flanagan. This was just one of 17 events that took place around the country to mark the moment as youth theatres opened their doors for the first ever Youth Theatre Ireland Open Week. A huge thanks to all the youth theatres and their members who got involved and put so much work into fantastic celebratory events.
Together, over 37 years, we have succeeded in establishing youth theatre as a leading youth arts practice that balances the value systems of theatre and youth work. Youth theatres affiliated to Youth Theatre Ireland are committed to empowering and developing young people as theatre makers and as individuals. As we embark on a new era, we are inspired to build on this legacy and we are motivated by our vision that all young people should have the opportunity to participate in quality youth drama experiences. This is a vision that demands we communicate our organisation, and the sector we represent, more widely. Youth Theatre Ireland describes our combined remit to develop youth theatre practice and to support and represent a network of active youth theatres.
Launching Youth Theatre Ireland has been an opportunity to acknowledge the work that is carried out in youth theatres year-round and to showcase the breadth and quality of that work. Our promotional film, 'We Are Youth Theatre' has been shared across social media and communicates our sector, its people and its values. Watch the film here.
