COVID Relief Grant Announced for Youth Theatres
Youth Theatre Ireland is launching the COVID Relief Grant (maximum €1,500) for affiliated youth theatres that need additional financial support to enable them to re-open in Autumn 2020 in a manner that complies with COVID-19 public health measures. Having run an extraordinary and sustained level of online activities for young people since March 2020, youth theatres are now planning to physically reopen activities and get ‘back in the circle’.
During these extraordinary times, this once-off grant will support youth theatres to begin ‘in-person’ workshops or a blended activities programme (in-person and online) with young people in a manner that complies with public health measures and social distancing guidelines. It will help to maintain young people’s access to youth theatre activities and maintain membership levels. Also, importantly, it will enable youth theatres to pay facilitators and directors for any additional hours required in order to necessary by comply with public health measures and social distancing.
Eoghan Doyle, Director of Youth Theatre Ireland, welcomes this timely support: “Youth Theatre Ireland is delighted to offer the COVID Relief Grant to its affiliated youth theatres to support them to physically re-open their youth theatres this Autumn. Like many sectors, youth theatres are experiencing financial challenges as they try to re-start activities under current COVID-19 public health measures, often doubling the number of their regular activities to comply with social distancing and restrictions on the number of youth theatre members allowed. We hope this grant will help youth theatres keep the door open and ensure young people’s continued access to a safe, creative space where they can connect with theatre, their ideas and each other.”
The total fund available to youth theatres through this scheme is €20,500. Youth theatres whose activities are run by voluntary facilitators should contact firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss how the COVID Relief Fund could apply to them.
Youth Theatre Ireland is supported by the Arts Council.
