COVID-19 Updated Advice to Members March 12 2020

Youth Theatres advised to consider suspending activities until 29th March 2020

Today the Taoiseach has announced the following measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19):
• schools, colleges and childcare facilities will close from tomorrow (Friday)
• indoor mass gatherings of 100 people or more and outdoor mass gatherings of more than 500 people should be cancelled
• all State-run cultural institutions will close

These  measures will come into effect from tomorrow until 29 March. In light of this, we are now updating our advice to youth theatres.
While youth theatre workshops are generally gatherings of less than 100 people and therefore are not officially required to be cancelled at this point, it is our advice that youth theatres consider suspending all activities, including workshops and performances until 29th March in line with the period of school closure.

We appreciate the difficulty and disappointment faced in having to cancel planned productions and other activities but it is important to work together and prioritise the wellbeing of everyone.

If you have any particular queries or concerns arising from closures, the Youth Theatre Ireland team are available to help. As of tomorrow, staff will be working remotely from home so please make contact by email to the relevant person. You can find all of our direct email addresses on the team page of our website.
We will update you further if we receive any advice from the authorities. Until then, stay safe and stay well.

Alan, Barry, Dave, Louise, Michelle, Rhona and Shelley.
