40th Anniversary Programme Announced!
2020 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the National Association for Youth Drama, known today as Youth Theatre Ireland. Throughout the year we will be celebrating youth theatre with an exciting programme of events.
Youth Theatre Ireland’s long-running criticism programme for young people will run again in 2020, led by Alan King and Karen Fricker.
National Youth Theatre
After the success of the 2018/2019 pilot, NYT will once again recruit for an ensemble to work across two calendar years towards a production in August 2021. Auditions will be held in summer 2020.
ARTiculate Young Playwrights Group
In association with the National Youth Theatre Programme, ARTiculate will bring young people together to be mentored in playwrighting by Dylan Coburn-Gray, Veronica Coburn and Barry Morgan. Articulate will take place on the second Saturday of each month starting from March.

Annual Leaders Residential Training Weekend

National Festival of Youth Theatres – 40th Anniversary Special
This years NFYT will be birthday themed to mark 40 years of Youth Theatre Ireland. The festival will be an extra day long and will culminate in an outdoor performance for the public.

Laying the Foundations – QQI Accredited Training in Youth Drama Facilitation.
Two component modules of the full level 6 Artstrain programme will be delivered across 9 weekends between March and December 2020 through centres rotating between Dublin, Offaly and Westmeath. Funded by Creative Ireland.
Youth Theatre Symposium – 40 years of youth theatre practice
This year’s two-day symposium in UCC will celebrate the growth of youth theatre in Ireland. A celebratory reception will honour some of the chief architects of the movement. Event will include Playshare.
